[181]  And So Can We

The day awoke gray.

Quietly it took its place,

like leaves sometimes do

when changing their hues.

When brown they linger,

a bit, then brittly fall.

Then cold, wind,

rain and snow appear,

beating repeatedly

the grooves on their back,

till suddenly, it feels,

they awake from the slumber

growing green and full,

once again, like a smile

that appears on our lips

before any thought.

As life, we live in both directions

And the great one knows

that days that feel bad, give us experience

and the worst ever yet, give us lessons

that will repeat, until we learn.

And happy days bring solutions

and sunshine so bright

it takes our breath away,

and gives us hope.

And the best, give memories

to make us whole, till the end

of time.

And in the middle of all

the forward, backward, forward, backward

—despite the life lived in the past—

the day called today,

that shapes our tomorrow,

is often rushed and taken over

by others with their own busy plans.

Yet, if we listen closely,

the Great Spirit beckons us

to become slow,

to develop clarity, perspective

For what appears

as a hampster wheel—

forward, backward, forward, backward

—can bring change, more sunshine,

and memories that make us whole.

For peace moves

purposefully and gently.

And so can we.
