[186] My Tomorrow

Lorraine Johnson

Last night I traveled into my past

closed my eyes and it all came in

moved by the percussive beats

of African song and rhythm

I swayed, I centered

I opened to the earthly tones

Back in time, I was

I found my heart, fluttering

carrying me from Mozambique

to Mali, and back again.

Then the rythmns stopped

but the energy remained

filling all the crevices

of a packed-filled room

of new faces, all ages

and one, unexpected,

enchanted encounter.

With a breath, I turned

no one beckoned me to return

so I slowly walked

into the darkness,

soon to be daylight

And I wondered—

which is the dream,

and how should I live,

my tomorrow?
